Mutual funds pick fewer IPOs but deliver bigger returns in the first half of 2026

Mutual funds have turned more selective in India's IPO market, participating in only 19 of the 28 public issues in the first half of 2026, according to Prime Database. Despite bidding less, their stock selection has outperformed. Ten of the 11 IPOs led by mutual funds are trading above their issue price, with Omnitech Engineering surging 133%. As mega IPOs such as NSE, Jio and SBI Funds line up in the second half, investors will be watching whether mutual funds continue their disciplined approach or increase participation.Disclosure: RIL, the promoter of Reliance Jio, also controls Network18, the parent company of CNBCTV18.com.

India's market outlook is improving as earnings recover, says IME Capital founder

IME Capital Founder & CEO Ashi Anand believes India's market outlook is improving as corporate earnings recover and domestic inflows remain strong. He said the biggest near-term risk is a rise in oil prices due to geopolitical tensions, adding that crude staying around $70 a barrel or lower would support growth, inflation and interest rates. Anand is also positive on companies linked to the electricity supply chain, saying AI-led data center investments are creating a long-term demand opportunity for power equipment. Motilal Oswal expects 44 companies, including Bharti Airtel, Trent, IndiGo, HAL, GAIL and Cipla, to report double-digit year-on-year profit declines in the June quarter. Higher energy costs, weaker demand, geopolitical tensions and margin pressure are expected to weigh on earnings, even as overall corporate profit growth slows in Q1.
