Economic and trade cooperation remains a key pillar of India-Indonesia ties
India and Indonesia issued a joint statement on the State Visit by Prime Minister of India to Indonesia. Prime Minister Modi and President Prabowo held official bilateral talks on 7 July 2026 at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta. The official talks covered the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including political engagement, defence and security cooperation, maritime cooperation, trade and investment, digital economy, science and technology, space, critical minerals, energy, agriculture, health, pharma, education, culture, tourism, youth exchanges and people-to-people ties, in addition to regional and global developments of mutual interest. They also witnessed the exchange of a number of bilateral documents, aimed at further strengthening the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Satcom firms flag omission of GMPCS in DoT's draft spectrum allocation rules
Satellite communication firms are concerned over the exclusion of Global Mobile Personal Communications Service (GMPCS) providers from draft rules for administrative spectrum allocation. The Broadband India Forum highlighted this omission, stating it contradicts the Telecommunications Act. While the rules cover various satellite services, GMPCS, explicitly mentioned in the Act for administrative assignment, is missing, creating industry uncertainty. Consultation on the draft rules is ongoing.
HC quashes ₹23,600 cr retrospective spectrum dues on Airtel, Voda Idea
The Bombay High Court has cancelled spectrum charges of approximately 23,600 crore rupees for Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. The court ruled the government could not retrospectively impose these charges for the period between 2008 and 2012. This decision removes significant financial uncertainty for the telecom sector.
