INR slumps back beyond Rs 95 per dollar mark as dollar stays firm; positive local equities cap downside

The Indian rupee depreciated 67 paise to close near a three-week low of 95.23 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, as a strengthening dollar index weighed on emerging market currencies. The USD/INR pair witnessed significant pressure due to the strengthening of the American currency in the overseas market, persistent capital outflows, and broader Asian currency weakness. Moreover, market sentiment turned highly cautious, following the breach of the psychological level of 95.00. Local equities also rebounded driven by positive global cues, a drop in crude oil prices, and easing geopolitical tensions. The NSE Nifty 50 gained 140.10 points (0.59%) to close at 24,005.85, while the BSE Sensex climbed 443.97 points (0.58%) to settle at 76,922.64.

Persistent's Nagarro deal could be a near-term pain for long-term gain

Persistent Systems is acquiring Nagarro SE for $1.3 billion, aiming for European expansion and reduced US market reliance. While strategically beneficial long-term, the deal, funded by debt, faces short-term pressure due to Nagarro's decelerating growth and a high acquisition price. Persistent must now focus on boosting combined revenue without sacrificing profitability, a key challenge ahead.

7 most valued firms' mcap eroded ₹1.25 trn last week, RIL took biggest hit

The combined market valuation of seven of the top-10 most-valued firms eroded by Rs 1.25 lakh crore last week, with Reliance Industries taking the biggest hit, in-line with a bearish trend in equities. Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex declined 532.4 points, or 0.71 per cent, and the NSE Nifty dipped 181.05 points, or 0.76 per cent. "Persistent FII selling remained the key drag on market sentiment despite supportive developments such as cooling crude oil prices and a recovery in the rupee against the US dollar. Concerns regarding the pace of monsoon advancement also weighed on investor confidence," Santosh Meena, Head of Research at Swastika Investmart Ltd, said. From the top-10 pack, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and Hindustan Unilever faced erosion from their valuation, while HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India were the gainers. FIIs, weak global cues among 5 factors that could keep D-St under pressure this week

Indian stock markets may remain under pressure this week amid persistent FII selling, weak global cues, rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia and elevated crude oil prices. While RBI’s policy measures and steps to attract foreign capital could support sentiment, investors will closely track monsoon progress, inflation concerns, global market trends and institutional flows for further market direction.

Dipan Mehta picks Coforge, Persistent and Happiest Minds for the AI era

Dipan Mehta, Director at Elixir Equities, said new-age IT firms such as Happiest Minds, Persistent Systems and Coforge are well placed to benefit from the AI-led disruption in technology services. He also favoured diversified NBFCs over banks and highlighted opportunities in mining companies like NMDC and Hindustan Copper. However, he cautioned that elevated crude oil prices and the ongoing Iran conflict could weigh on India's economic growth and market sentiment. Primary market to pick up as CMR Green, Hexagon Nutrition to launch IPOs

The primary market will see some activity next week, with two companies - CMR Green Technologies and Hexagon Nutrition - slated to launch their initial public offerings (IPOs) collectively valued at nearly Rs 770 crore. As both the issues are entirely offer for sale (OFS), the companies will not receive any proceeds from the public offerings, with the entire amount going to the selling shareholders. The upcoming offerings come at a time when the primary market has witnessed subdued activity amid persistent market volatility and global uncertainties. Although several companies have received regulatory clearances in recent weeks, many have deferred their listing plans due to uncertain market conditions. So far in 2026, around 20 companies, including Fractal Analytics, Shadowfax Technologies and Bharat Coking Coal, have tapped the capital markets through main-board initial public offerings. The IPO of CMR Green Technologies, a non-ferrous metal recycler, will open for public subscript

INR appreciates near three-week high as oil retreats on ceasefire talks

The Indian rupee appreciated 53 paise to close at 95.05 (provisional) against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, as renewed optimism over the peace deal between the US and Iran boosted market sentiments. The domestic currency gained momentum near a three week high on an overnight decline in crude oil prices and a fall in the US dollar, after the US and Iran reached an understanding to extend the ceasefire for another 60 days although Trumps approval on the same is awaited. On Thursday, the US and Iranian negotiators reached a tentative agreement to extend the ceasefire by 60 days and start a new round of talks on Iran's nuclear programme. Meanwhile, BSE Sensex closed about 1.4% down at 74,775.7 on Friday, extending losses for a third session, restricting upside in the counter as investors remained cautious amid ongoing FII outflows, persistent geopolitical uncertainty and weaker-than-normal monsoon forecasts that could impact inflation.
