HC says toll collection against construction services provided to NHAI taxable
The Rajasthan High Court has ruled that toll collection rights are taxable. These rights are considered payment for highway construction services provided to the National Highways Authority of India. The court rejected arguments that toll collection is exempt from GST. This decision could impact public-private infrastructure projects. Tax authorities can now demand GST, interest, and penalties.

HG Infra wins ₹3,931-cr highway project from Welspun Enterprises in Maharashtra
The project involves the construction of a 6-lane (including partially elevated) highway corridor along with the improvement of the existing road, covering the Pune to Shirur section of NH-753F with a minimum design length of 53.40 km. The government seeks to significantly increase the share of BOT projects in highway awards.
Road ministry raises construction timelines for NH projects to up to six years
These normative construction periods will be applicable for all national highway projects to be bid out either on engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) mode, hybrid annuity model (HAM) or build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode on or after May 6, 2026, the ministry of road transport and highways said in a circular issued on Monday.
