Asian shares mixed, oil prices decline after Opec+ announces output hike

Asian shares and US futures were mixed on Monday following a long weekend on Wall Street, while selling of technology shares pulled benchmarks in Tokyo and Seoul lower. Oil prices slipped after OPEC+ announced Sunday that seven of its members plan to expand oil production by a combined total of 188,000 barrels per day in August. It was the fifth consecutive month OPEC+ members have agreed to raise output. The countries increasing their output are Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman. Uncertainty over supplies persists as talks with Iran aimed at fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz appear to be on hold during funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which will continue for several days. In energy trading early Monday, Brent crude, the international standard, lost 25 cents to $71.87 a barrel. US benchmark crude lost 10 cents to $68.59 a barrel. E20 mixing in trial phase, Centre tells SC; court orders status quo on ethanol quota

The Supreme Court has halted the Karnataka High Court's order to increase ethanol allocations for the 2025-26 supply year, urging state-run oil companies to maintain current levels. Attorney General R Venkataramani argued that such changes could destabilise the national E20 blending program, an "ongoing experiment."

SC directs status quo on Karnataka HC order on ethanol allocation; Centre says 20% blending still an experiment

The Supreme Court has put a hold on a Karnataka High Court order that sought to increase ethanol allocation for 2025-26. An oil company argued this could disrupt the national policy for 20% ethanol blending in petrol. The top court issued a notice, questioning if enhancing one supplier's quota would lead to widespread litigation and destabilize the existing national policy.

Indian refiners unlikely to rush for Iranian oil despite temporary US sanctions waiver, says analyst

Indian refiners are unlikely to sharply raise purchases of Iranian crude despite a 60-day US sanctions waiver, as uncertainty over its duration, payment hurdles and existing supply commitments limit fresh buying, market analyst Sumit Ritolia said. Refiners have already secured most crude requirements for the coming months through advance procurement plans.

Realtors eye margin relief as US-Iran peace deal raises hopes of lower fuel costs

A potential peace deal between the US and Iran offers hope for India's real estate and construction sectors. Developers are watching oil prices closely. A ceasefire could lower crude oil costs, easing supply chain worries. This may gradually reduce construction expenses and improve project margins. Stability in the Gulf region could also boost housing demand from non-resident Indians.
