INR settles higher, supported by good recovery in local equities

The Indian rupee appreciated by 7 paise to settle at 95.41 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday even as crude oil prices firmed up and the greenback strengthened in the global markets. A recovery in the stock markets and dollar selling by state-run lenders supported the local currency amid rising volatility triggered by the fresh escalation in the West Asia crisis. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened lower by 4 paise at 95.52 against the US dollar and later traded in the range of 95.58 to 95.28 during the day. It settled at 95.41 (provisional), up 7 paise from the previous close. The rupee had declined by 52 paise to settle at 95.48 against the US dollar on Wednesday. Indian shares ended modestly higher on Thursday, after having fallen heavily in the previous session amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East. At the close of the market, the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 80.75 points (0.34%) to settle at 23,962.80, while the BSE Sensex gained 238.22 ...

Demat account additions pick up on D-Street rebound

India added over 2.5 million demat accounts in June, the highest since February. This growth occurred as key market indices Nifty 50 and Sensex advanced significantly. Improved market sentiment followed the easing of geopolitical concerns and potential IPO announcements. Broader market participation and digital onboarding are attracting new retail investors. Future demat account growth will depend on Indian market performance and investor confidence.

INR appreciates on improved market sentiment

The Indian rupee appreciated 15 paise to 95.28 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday on improved market sentiment after reports that Saudi Arabia has slashed August crude oil prices for Asia amid easing of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Lower Middle East risk premium and higher traffic from the Strait of Hormuz kept the oil prices lower. At the interbank foreign exchange market the rupee opened at 95.33 and later touched 95.28 against the American currency, registering a gain of 15 paise from its previous close. Yesterday, rupee depreciated 20 paise to close at 95.43 against the US dollar, as a strengthening greenback weighed on emerging market currencies. Meanwhile, local markets are extending gains amid strong quarterly updates from banking heavyweights like HDFC Bank, favorable monsoon progress, and steady foreign institutional buying. The BSE Sensex was trading at 78,374.76, up by 89.69 points (0.11%), while the NSE Nifty 50 was up 38.90 points (0.16%) at ..

Rebound in greenback weighs on INR; Gains in local equities cap downside

The Indian rupee depreciated 20 paise to close at 95.38 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, as a strengthening greenback weighed on emerging market currencies. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.25 against the American currency and traded in a range of 95.22-95.48 during the session. The rupee finally closed at 95.38 (provisional), down 20 paise from its previous close. Local shares rose notably on Monday, with benchmark indexes Sensex and Nifty extending gains for a fourth consecutive session, as crude prices continued to fall in international markets following OPEC+'s decision to raise output. Underlying sentiment was also underpinned by eased concerns over near-term Federal Reserve rate hikes, optimism for promising corporate earnings' season, and strong provisional June quarter business growth updates reported by banks. The BSE Sensex surged 521.16 points (0.67%) to close at 78,285.07 and the NSE Nifty 50 climbed 159.50 points (0.66%) to ..

Bitcoin slides to lowest level in 21-months amid rate hike as US dollar strengthens

"Hawkish comments by US Federal Reserve policymakers are fueling expectations for higher rates, encouraging capital away from assets like cryptocurrencies that don't pay a yield. Investors pulled more than $4 billion from US-listed Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in June, the most since they launched two years ago."

MFs wary of Sebi plan to allow celeb ads, cite mis-selling, edge for big entities

Sebi's proposal to let mutual fund houses use celebrity endorsements has sparked a debate over investor protection and competition. While supporters say it could bring in more first-time investors, critics fear higher mis-selling risks and a growing advantage for large fund houses.

INR settles lower as renewed geopolitical tensions hit investors' risk appetite

The Indian rupee pared initial gains and settled lower by 9 paise at 94.54 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, as renewed geopolitical tensions hit investors' risk appetite. The rupee opened on a positive note with crude oil prices remaining supportive and foreign inflows improving, but a renewed flare-up in geopolitical tensions after fresh military exchanges between the US and Iran dented investor sentiment. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 94.36, then gained momentum and touched an intraday high of 94.25 and a low of 94.56 against the American currency. On June 29, 2026, the Indian stock market snapped its two-day winning streak with the benchmark indices ending lower. Nifty 50 declined by 109.75 points (0.46%) to close at 23,946.25.BSE Sensex slid by 372.10 points (0.48%) to close at 76,728.37.

INR settles higher as global crude oil prices continue to slide

The Indian rupee appreciated 16 paise to settle at 94.39 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday as global crude oil prices continued to slide. Positive sentiments in the domestic equity markets and a marginally weaker greenback further supported the local unit while FII outflows prevented sharper gains. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 94.30 against the dollar and traded in the range of 94.13-94.56. It settled at 94.39 (provisional), up 16 paise from the previous close. Indian shares gave up some early gains to end modestly higher on Thursday. Underlying sentiment remained underpinned somewhat as oil prices extended declines to levels seen before the Middle East conflict on signs of improving flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route that handles around one-fifth of global oil supplies.

INR settles lower amid pessimistic global sentiments

The Indian rupee declined 11 paise to close at 94.74 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday weighed down by a firm greenback and weak domestic markets. However, a decline in global crude oil prices cushioned against a sharper decline in the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 94.73 against the US dollar and traded in a range of 94.63-94.92 before settling at 94.74 (provisional), down 11 paise from its previous close. Indian stock indices Sensex and the Nifty50 ended notably lower on Tuesday, weighed down by weakness in global markets, FII selling and weak Indian PMI data. Global tech stocks fell amid concerns that AI-driven valuations have become overstretched, triggering heavy selling in the Indian tech space.

India’s biggest equity fund makes contrarian bet on IT stocks

India’s largest actively managed equity fund, PPFAS Flexi Cap, is increasing exposure to beaten-down IT stocks, taking a contrarian view on AI disruption fears. CIO Rajeev Thakkar argues pessimism is overdone, betting on productivity gains and valuation comfort even as the Nifty IT index heads for its worst year since 2008.
