Broader markets outshine benchmarks; Smallcaps extend weekly winning run
Most of the sectoral indices ended in the green, with Nifty realty index surged nearly 8 percent, Nifty Pharma index rose 3 percent, Nifty Healthcare index added 3 percent, while Nifty Capital Market and Defence indices added nearly 2 percent each.

Pharma stocks led the gains on benchmark Nifty 50 and the BSE Midcap index on Tuesday. Dr Reddy's, Sun Pharma and Cipla were the top 3 Nifty gainers, amid news reports that the US FDA has asked Indian firms to help address a shortage of ifosfamide injection.

Biggest Nifty losers were L&T, Interglobe Aviation, Adani Ports, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Adani Enterprises, while gainers included Bharat Electronics, Sun Pharma, ONGC, Dr Reddy's Labs and Hindalco. Except metals, all other sectoral indices ended lower with Auto, Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas down 2 percent each. The Nifty midcap and smallcap indices fell 1.5 percent each.

Nifty Midcap and smallcap indices down 1% each. Dr Reddy's Labs, Bharti Airtel, M&M, HDFC Life, Sun Pharma were among the top drags on the Nifty, while gainers were Trent, HCL Tech, Infosys, Apollo Hospitals. Among sectors, auto, bank, FMCG, metal, realty, telecom shed 1-2%, while IT, media, consumer durables ended in the green.
Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty end flat amid volatility; pharma, oil & gas gain, media falls
Bharat Electronics, Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki were among major gainers on the Sensex, while losers were Power Grid Corporation, Trent, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank and Eternal. Among sectors, auto, pharma, oil & gas, PSU Bank telecom, metal added 0.4-1%, while media index shed 0.7%. Nifty Midcap index rose 0.6%, while smallcap index ended flat.

Indian equity markets turned volatile with the Sensex tumbling over 400 points from the day’s high and the Nifty slipping nearly 100 points.
