Market ends sideways; Nifty settles near 25,500 level; VIX drops 3.15%
Nifty ended near the 25,500 level. Pharma, PSU bank and oil & gas shares advanced, while media, FMCG and financial services stocks declined.

Sectorally, FMCG and private banking stocks outperformed, whereas all other major indices ended in the red, with media, realty, energy, metal, oil & gas, and PSU bank indices falling 1-2%.

Among sectors, Media index gained 3.5%, while PSU Banks, Realty, Consumer Durables, and Healthcare rose 0.5% each. In contrast, Energy, IT, Metal, Oil & Gas, and Telecom indices declined between 0.5% and 1.5%.

Auto, power, FMCG, PSU Bank, Consumer Durables, realty down 1-3%, while IT index up 2.6%, media index up 1.3%, and metal index up 0.5%.

On the sectoral front, realty index up 3.5%, FMCG and media indices added 2% each, auto and PSU Bank indices rose 1% each. On the other hand, IT index shed 2%, while metal index down 1% and pharma index down 0.5%.

Except power, FMCG, energy, all other sectoral indices ended in the green with auto, media, private bank, PSU Bank, realty, metal, pharma up 1-2%.

Biggest Nifty gainers were Wipro, Hindalco Industries, HCL Technologies, TCS, Infosys, while losers included Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Adani Enterprises, Interglobe Aviatoion, Apollo Hospitals, Adani Ports. Except Consumer Durables and PSU Bank, all other sectoral indices ended in the green with Information Technology rose 2.5%, Metal index gained 1.5%, Realty index up 1.7% and Media index jumped 1%. The Nifty midcap index was up 0.3 percent, while smallcap index ended flat.

Except IT, all other sectoral indices ended in the red, with Infra, PSU Bank, Realty, Media, Oil & gas, Auto, Metal down 2-4%. Nifty Midcap and smallcap indices down 2% each. Tata Steel, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, SBI Life Insurance, L&T, JSW Steel were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers included Coal India, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Tech Mahindra.
