Sensex jumps 579 points; Nifty tops 24,150 on IT, auto rally

Benchmark indices extended their gains for a second straight session on Thursday, supported by broad-based buying in IT and auto stocks. Sentiment was also buoyed by easing crude oil prices amid ongoing US-Iran peace talks. The Nifty closed above the 24,150 mark, while the Nifty IT index rebounded nearly 5% after four consecutive sessions of losses. Broader markets outperformed, led by small-cap stocks, although PSU bank shares bucked the trend and ended lower.

Sensex jumps over 500 points, Nifty tops 24,150 as oil slips below $70/bbl on US-Iran peace talks

Indian stock markets saw a second day of gains, with Sensex and Nifty inching up as oil prices plummeted to $70 a barrel amid US-Iran peace talks. Tech stocks like Infosys led the charge, while broader markets also traded higher. Analysts point to falling crude, strong auto sales, and tapering FII selling as positive near-term drivers, though monsoon progress remains a watch point.

Sensex rises over 150 points, Nifty above 23,900 as investors weigh Iran tensions, weak monsoon concerns

Indian stock markets opened the second half of 2026 with modest gains after recent declines. Investors are closely watching escalating US-Iran tensions, which are impacting oil prices, and a concerningly weak monsoon season. Analysts suggest adjusting portfolios towards fixed income and monsoon-proof sectors like healthcare and defense to mitigate potential fallout from the dry spell.

Why Singapore's 100x100 wants to back India's climate founders

Singapore's 100X100 is scaling up its India climate investments via a new $150 million fund, betting on the country's emissions profile and deep founder pool even as broader investor interest in the sector cools. The venture builder plans to back 40-50 startups across India and Southeast Asia.

INR settles lower as renewed geopolitical tensions hit investors' risk appetite

The Indian rupee pared initial gains and settled lower by 9 paise at 94.54 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, as renewed geopolitical tensions hit investors' risk appetite. The rupee opened on a positive note with crude oil prices remaining supportive and foreign inflows improving, but a renewed flare-up in geopolitical tensions after fresh military exchanges between the US and Iran dented investor sentiment. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 94.36, then gained momentum and touched an intraday high of 94.25 and a low of 94.56 against the American currency. On June 29, 2026, the Indian stock market snapped its two-day winning streak with the benchmark indices ending lower. Nifty 50 declined by 109.75 points (0.46%) to close at 23,946.25.BSE Sensex slid by 372.10 points (0.48%) to close at 76,728.37.

Sensex falls 50 points, Nifty above 24,050; Eternal, Sun Pharma, TechM rise 1%

Indian stock markets traded mixed on Monday, with Sensex dipping slightly and Nifty inching higher amidst rising oil prices due to Iran-US tensions. While some blue-chips gained, broader markets saw a minor decline. Analysts suggest a potential market upturn due to easing FII selling and South Korea's volatility, but a deficient monsoon remains a concern. Upcoming Q1 results are expected to drive stock-specific movements.

INR settles higher as global crude oil prices continue to slide

The Indian rupee appreciated 16 paise to settle at 94.39 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday as global crude oil prices continued to slide. Positive sentiments in the domestic equity markets and a marginally weaker greenback further supported the local unit while FII outflows prevented sharper gains. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 94.30 against the dollar and traded in the range of 94.13-94.56. It settled at 94.39 (provisional), up 16 paise from the previous close. Indian shares gave up some early gains to end modestly higher on Thursday. Underlying sentiment remained underpinned somewhat as oil prices extended declines to levels seen before the Middle East conflict on signs of improving flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route that handles around one-fifth of global oil supplies.

Benchmarks hold their ground despite late profit booking

The benchmark indices ended marginally higher on Thursday, extending gains for a second straight session. The Nifty climbed to a more than one-month high of 24,261.60 around noon, supported by easing crude oil prices and buying in auto and FMCG stocks. However, profit booking in the second half erased most of the intraday gains, while weakness in metal, IT, oil & gas and energy stocks capped the upside. The Nifty still managed to close above the 24,000 mark. Broader markets underperformed, with the midcap and smallcap indices ending in the red.

Investor sentiment in South Korea shifted amid falling oil prices and positive news from US-Iran talks. However, proposed taxes on unrealised gains introduced uncertainty, contributing to significant market volatility and sharp fluctuations for major technology stocks.
