West Asia situation, crude prices likely to steer stock markets this week
Stock markets are expected to remain sensitive to geopolitical developments this week, with investor attention firmly focused on events surrounding the ongoing USIran situation and crude oil prices, analysts said. Besides, the rupee-dollar trend and trading activity of foreign investors would influence trading in the markets, they noted. "Markets this week are expected to remain highly volatile and largely driven by geopolitical headlines, with investor attention firmly focused on developments surrounding the ongoing USIran situation," Ponmudi R, CEO - Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth tech firm, said. Brent crude oil will remain a critical macro variable for market direction, he said. "A sustained decline in crude prices below the USD 90 mark, or meaningful progress towards de-escalation, could support relief rallies across risk assets. Conversely, prolonged geopolitical uncertainty or renewed tensions may continue to weigh on sentiment and keep volatility elevated," Ponm
Mcap of 4 most valued firms erodes by ₹1 trn, SBI biggest laggard
The combined market valuation of four of the top-10 most valued firms eroded by Rs 1 lakh crore last week, with State Bank of India taking the biggest hit, amid a range-bound trend in equities. Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 414.69 points or 0.53 per cent, and the NSE Nifty went up by 178.6 points or 0.74 per cent. "Indian equity markets witnessed a volatile and range-bound week, with sentiment remaining cautious despite intermittent recovery attempts. While Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Larsen & Toubro faced erosion from their valuation, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever and Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) were the gainers from the pack. ...

State elections result, oil prices likely to steer markets this week
Stock markets are likely to be guided this week by the outcome of state elections and high crude oil prices amid the West Asia conflict, say analysts. The developments related to the West Asia conflict and the Strait of Hormuz will also be tracked by investors, they said. Counting of votes for the five assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will begin on Monday, May 4. "The most immediate catalyst will be the outcome of key state elections, with investors closely watching whether the ruling party at the Centre can wrest West Bengal from Trinamool Congress and make meaningful inroads into opposition-ruled Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) currently has a limited presence," Hariprasad K, Research Analyst and Founder, Livelong Wealth, said. Crude oil remains the single most critical macro variable, Hariprasad said. "With Brent prices sustaining elevated levels amid ongoing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, inflatio

Dipan Mehta advises caution amid global risks; sees opportunity in Ambuja Cements
Dipan Mehta of Elixir Equities remains cautious on equities despite a recent recovery, citing risks from West Asia tensions, crude oil prices, inflation, and monsoon uncertainty. He expects the full impact to reflect in the June quarter and advises waiting for earnings clarity. He remains positive on cement, especially Ambuja Cements. Among capital market plays, he prefers MCX due to strong volumes in gold and crude, and also likes wealth firms such as Anand Rathi Wealth, 360 ONE WAM, and Nuvama for their stable annuity revenues.
