Ukrainian drone attacks on oil refineries plunge Russia into a summer fuel crisis

Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries are causing widespread fuel shortages and long queues at gas stations across Russia. This unprecedented crisis, impacting ordinary citizens and businesses, has led to rationing in many regions. President Putin acknowledged the issues, calling them temporary, but motorists report a stark contrast between official statements and reality. The attacks are disrupting Russia's energy production and impacting its economy.

India plans to add strategic fuel reserves after Iran war shock

India is bolstering its energy security by planning strategic reserves of crude oil, LPG, and LNG to cover up to a month's demand, aiming to prevent supply disruptions like those seen during the Persian Gulf crisis. This ambitious move follows a review of existing, limited stockpiles and includes expanding underground crude storage and addressing the challenges of storing gas.

Mcap of 6 of top-10 most valued firms climbs Rs 88,678 cr; ICICI Bank biggest winner

Indian stock markets saw a modest gain last week, with the top 10 companies adding Rs 88,678.1 crore in market valuation. ICICI Bank led the surge, followed by HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries. However, Bharti Airtel, TCS, and LIC experienced significant valuation drops. This positive market sentiment was attributed to easing crude oil prices and improved geopolitical developments.

Six of top-10 firms add ₹88,678 crore in mcap, ICICI Bank biggest winner

The combined market valuation of 6 of the top-10 most valued companies went up by Rs 88,678.1 crore in a holiday-shortened last week, with ICICI Bank emerging as the biggest winner. Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 297.57 points, or 0.38 per cent, and the NSE Nifty went up by 42.9 points, or 0.17 per cent. "Markets ended the holiday-shortened week with modest gains, advancing in three of the four trading sessions. Sentiment remained constructive, supported by easing crude oil prices, improving geopolitical developments in West Asia, and selective buying by foreign institutional investors (FIIs)," Ajit Mishra, SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said. While Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Bajaj Finance and Larsen & Toubro were the gainers, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and Hindustan Unilever faced erosion from their valuation. Benchmarks hold their ground despite late profit booking

The benchmark indices ended marginally higher on Thursday, extending gains for a second straight session. The Nifty climbed to a more than one-month high of 24,261.60 around noon, supported by easing crude oil prices and buying in auto and FMCG stocks. However, profit booking in the second half erased most of the intraday gains, while weakness in metal, IT, oil & gas and energy stocks capped the upside. The Nifty still managed to close above the 24,000 mark. Broader markets underperformed, with the midcap and smallcap indices ending in the red.
