Nifty broke below its 23,800–24,500 consolidation range, signalling near-term weakness, with resistance now seen at 23,800–24,000 and key support at 23,150, according to analysts. Market breadth stayed negative as Sensex fell sharply, dragged by RIL, SBI and M&M. Market Trading Guide: 2 stock ideas for Monday with up to 8% near-term gains

Nifty ended lower on Friday, breaking a two-session winning streak as banking, metal and realty stocks dragged the index below the 23,800 zone. Analysts see a bearish setup with resistance at key EMAs and support near 23,500. Amid volatility, two technical stock picks, Kirloskar Oil and Wheels India, signal short-term upside potential of up to 8% with defined stop losses.

Dalal Street Week Ahead: Nifty’s fragile trend flags deeper volatility as selling pressure intensifies

Nifty ended the week under sharp corrective pressure as selling dominated and volatility spiked. The index remains structurally weak below key moving averages, with support at 23,200–23,000 and resistance near 24,300–24,500. Elevated VIX, weakening momentum indicators and expanding Bollinger Bands signal a volatile, cautious week ahead for traders.

Private banks top pick for FY27; RBI rate hike likely in second half of the year: ICICI Pru Life

Jitendra Arora, Chief Equity & Fund Manager at ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, says large private banks are his top sector bet for FY27, with an RBI rate hike likely in H2. He also likes power generation and select EPC stocks. On the broader market, he says domestic flows are acting as a buffer against FII selling, keeping indices range-bound. On metals, he advises holding existing positions but not adding fresh. On May 15, Indian markets declined, with Nifty down 0.18% and Sensex down 0.25%. Selling in financial and metal stocks offset IT sector gains. The rupee hit a record low of 96.5 against the dollar, influenced by foreign investor withdrawals and rising crude oil prices.

INR settles around record low level as energy crisis deepen

The Indian rupee weakened further and fell to a record low of 95.73 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday, amid a strong dollar and worries over inflation amid elevated energy prices. International oil prices continued to hold around $100 per barrel mark that kept rupee under pressure. The rupee is expected to trade with a negative bias amid inflation concerns and the strength of the US dollar in the overseas market. The West Asia crisis and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have disrupted crude petroleum imports into India. Investors also awaited the outcome of U.S. President Donald Trump's summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. However, positive local equities limited losses in the domestic unit to some extent. Indian equity markets settled sharply higher for the second consecutive session, with the Sensex rising 789.74 points (1.06%) to 75,398.72 and the Nifty gaining 277 points (1.18%) to 23,689.60.
