Most of the sectoral indices ended in the green, with Nifty realty index surged nearly 8 percent, Nifty Pharma index rose 3 percent, Nifty Healthcare index added 3 percent, while Nifty Capital Market and Defence indices added nearly 2 percent each.

Among sectors, Media index gained 3.5%, while PSU Banks, Realty, Consumer Durables, and Healthcare rose 0.5% each. In contrast, Energy, IT, Metal, Oil & Gas, and Telecom indices declined between 0.5% and 1.5%.

Indian equities traded lower on Friday afternoon as weakness in metal and information technology stocks outweighed gains in select financial, healthcare and consumer names. At 2:18 pm, the Sensex was down 299.98 points or 0.40 percent at 74,060.03, while the Nifty slipped 110.15 points or 0.47 percent to 23,306.40. Market breadth remained weak, with 2,070 stocks declining against 1,720 advances. The Nifty Metal index dropped nearly 2 percent and Nifty IT fell over 1 percent, while broader markets also underperformed.
