Six of top-10 firms add ₹88,678 crore in mcap, ICICI Bank biggest winner

The combined market valuation of 6 of the top-10 most valued companies went up by Rs 88,678.1 crore in a holiday-shortened last week, with ICICI Bank emerging as the biggest winner. Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 297.57 points, or 0.38 per cent, and the NSE Nifty went up by 42.9 points, or 0.17 per cent. "Markets ended the holiday-shortened week with modest gains, advancing in three of the four trading sessions. Sentiment remained constructive, supported by easing crude oil prices, improving geopolitical developments in West Asia, and selective buying by foreign institutional investors (FIIs)," Ajit Mishra, SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said. While Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Bajaj Finance and Larsen & Toubro were the gainers, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and Hindustan Unilever faced erosion from their valuation. Health ministry issues proposal for one-year residual shelf life for imported drugs

The Union Health Ministry is proposing to relax import rules for medicines, requiring a minimum 12-month shelf life upon arrival instead of the current 60% of total shelf life. This move aims to simplify business operations and ensure medicine availability. The change, however, will not affect specialized drugs like biologicals and radiopharmaceuticals. Officials believe this will cut down wastage and improve inventory management, ultimately benefiting patients.

Benchmarks hold their ground despite late profit booking

The benchmark indices ended marginally higher on Thursday, extending gains for a second straight session. The Nifty climbed to a more than one-month high of 24,261.60 around noon, supported by easing crude oil prices and buying in auto and FMCG stocks. However, profit booking in the second half erased most of the intraday gains, while weakness in metal, IT, oil & gas and energy stocks capped the upside. The Nifty still managed to close above the 24,000 mark. Broader markets underperformed, with the midcap and smallcap indices ending in the red.

Dalal Street set for a firm opening as GIFT Nifty trades higher

Indian markets surged on Monday, with the Nifty closing higher, buoyed by positive US-Iran talks, falling crude prices, and strong global sentiment. Value buying in IT stocks and reduced market volatility also contributed to the rally. Analysts anticipate a continued positive outlook for Indian equities, driven by ongoing diplomatic progress and stable energy prices. Investors are advised to watch key technical levels as volatility may persist.
