INR settles lower as global crude oil prices stay elevated amid Middle East turmoil

The Indian rupee depreciated 15 paise to close at 95.34 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday, as global crude oil prices jumped and the American currency remained firm amid massive safe-haven inflows. Significant foreign fund outflows also weighed on the investor sentiments. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.16 against the US dollar, then touched an intraday high of 95.03 and a low of 95.37. Indian shares closed higher on Tuesday, staging a rebound after four days of losses as investors assessed mixed signals over the status of U.S.-Iran peace talks and awaited upcoming RBI rate decision. The Nifty 50 gained 100.95 points (0.43%) to close at 23,483.55, while the Sensex rose 382.50 points (0.52%) to settle at 74,649.84.

Nifty reclaims 24,000 as global risk appetite rebounds

The key equity benchmarks surged on Monday as plunging crude oil prices and rising hopes of a US-Iran peace deal sparked a powerful risk-on rally across global markets. Robust buying in banking and financial stocks propelled the Nifty decisively above the 24,000 mark, while broad-based momentum lifted all sectoral indices on the BSE into positive territory.

AI boom is far from over, says Citi’s Drew Pettit

Drew Pettit, Director-US Equity Strategy/ETF Analysis & Strategy Research at Citi expects technology-linked markets such as South Korea and Taiwan to outperform as AI-driven earnings momentum broadens beyond Nvidia, while geopolitical risks and inflation continue to shape global asset allocation.

Oil may surge to $120/bbl if West Asia conflict drags on: Citi’s Drew Pettit

Oil can still rise to $120 a barrel, warns Drew Pettit, Director-US Equity Strategy/ETF Analysis & Strategy Research at Citi, who believes markets are underestimating the risk of a prolonged West Asia crisis. He says oil, not Fed policy, remains the key driver for global equities, inflation and risk assets. Pettit remains bullish on the AI boom, citing strong momentum in Nvidia, semiconductor and infrastructure plays, while favouring Korea and Taiwan over India in emerging markets.

Gold loans rise 50% to Rs 19 lakh crore in FY26

Gold jewellery loans have seen a massive 50 percent jump year-on-year, reaching ₹19 lakh crore. This makes it the fastest growing retail loan category. The surge is driven by rising gold prices and a shift in borrowing habits. This growth has boosted the overall retail loan market. Asset quality has also improved with declining delinquency levels across most segments.

Banks seek RBI relief on InvIT lending rules, warn 3-yr track record rule may slow infra monetisation & fresh funding

Banks have asked the Reserve Bank of India to relax new lending rules for Infrastructure Investment Trusts. The proposed three-year operational track record requirement could delay infrastructure monetisation and new project funding. Lenders prefer asset quality over trust age for financing eligibility. This change aims to ensure smoother fund recycling and attract global investors for new infrastructure projects.
