Reliance, ITC, Tata Steel drive Nifty past 25,800; Sensex climbs 283 points
Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks. The Midcap Index climbed 302 points to 60,183. The Nifty Bank index gained 377 points to end at 61,551.

Indian equities erased all the intraday losses with Nifty back above 23,500. TCS, Infosys, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Trent are among top gainers on the Nifty, while losers are NTPC, Power Grid Corp, Cipla, Dr Reddy's Labs and L&T. Among sectors IT index up 4%, while auto, metal, Consumer Durables, realty up 0.5% each. However, pharma, healthcare, power, media, energy down 0.5-1%. Except IT, all other sectoral indices ended in the red, with Infra, PSU Bank, Realty, Media, Oil & gas, Auto, Metal down 2-4%. Nifty Midcap and smallcap indices down 2% each. Tata Steel, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, SBI Life Insurance, L&T, JSW Steel were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers included Coal India, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Tech Mahindra.

Biggest Nifty losers were L&T, Interglobe Aviation, Adani Ports, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Adani Enterprises, while gainers included Bharat Electronics, Sun Pharma, ONGC, Dr Reddy's Labs and Hindalco. Except metals, all other sectoral indices ended lower with Auto, Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas down 2 percent each. The Nifty midcap and smallcap indices fell 1.5 percent each.

Bharat Electronics, Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki were among major gainers on the Sensex, while losers were Power Grid Corporation, Trent, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank and Eternal. Among sectors, auto, pharma, oil & gas, PSU Bank telecom, metal added 0.4-1%, while media index shed 0.7%. Nifty Midcap index rose 0.6%, while smallcap index ended flat.

Broader indices were mixed, as the Nifty Midcap index gained 0.5 percent, whereas the Smallcap index closed slightly in the red.

Closing Bell: Market fails to hold gains, end lower amid late selling
Biggest Nifty losers were HDFC Bank, ONGC, HDFC Life, Titan Company, Apollo Hospitals, while gainers included Hindalco Industries, Trent, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports and Eternal. Among sectors, IT, capital goods and metal indices gained 1% each, while auto, bank, oil & gas ended lower. The Nifty midcap index rose 0.6 percent and smallcap index added nearly 1 percent.

On the sectoral front, oil & gas, PSU Bank, Infra, Consumer Durables, and Private Bank shed between 0.4-2%, while metal, power, pharma added 0.5-1%. L&T, Interglobe Aviation, HDFC Bank, Shriram Finance, Jio Financial are among biggest losers on the Nifty, while gainers included Dr Reddy's Labs, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, Bharat Electronics, ONGC. Nifty Midcap and Smallcap ended on a flat note.
