Conrad Saldanha, MD & Portfolio Manager of Neuberger Berman, says market uncertainty due to Middle East tensions has created selective long-term opportunities. He sees attractive valuations emerging in global IT services after a sharp correction, while tech fundamentals remain strong. In India, he is selectively adding large caps like Reliance Industries and Bharti Airtel and likes IT midcaps such as Coforge and Persistent Systems as well as defence play Data Patterns, on weakness. Nifty ended near the 25,500 level. Pharma, PSU bank and oil & gas shares advanced, while media, FMCG and financial services stocks declined.

Bharat Electronics, Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki were among major gainers on the Sensex, while losers were Power Grid Corporation, Trent, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank and Eternal. Among sectors, auto, pharma, oil & gas, PSU Bank telecom, metal added 0.4-1%, while media index shed 0.7%. Nifty Midcap index rose 0.6%, while smallcap index ended flat.

Hindalco Industries, Power Grid Corp, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle, Eternal, NTPC were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were ONGC, ITC, HDFC Life, HDFC Bank, Wipro.

All the sectoral indices ended in the green with Capital Goods, Oil & Gas, Power, Infra, Media, Realty, Consumer Durables, IT rise 2% each. Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices up more than 2 percent each.

Among sectors, Media index gained 3.5%, while PSU Banks, Realty, Consumer Durables, and Healthcare rose 0.5% each. In contrast, Energy, IT, Metal, Oil & Gas, and Telecom indices declined between 0.5% and 1.5%.
