Prefer BSE on dips, Bajaj Auto strong, DMart margins muted: Chola Securities

Dharmesh Kant, Head of Research at Chola Securities, says markets remain selective with stock-specific opportunities. He flags weak telecom tower metrics and muted DMart margins, while auto OEMs show strong growth aided by price hikes. On BSE, he sees 15–20% volume trends but advises caution post volatility. He prefers long-term capital market plays on dips and remains bullish on metals, especially JSW Steel, with structural demand tailwinds.

India's retail car sales hit record in April, but Mideast crisis clouds outlook

Indian car sales reached an all-time high in April. Passenger vehicle sales saw a significant jump. This growth was driven by rate cuts, easier financing, and strong demand from rural areas. However, concerns about Middle East tensions and rising fuel prices may affect demand in the coming months. Dealers are monitoring inventory levels and urging caution from manufacturers.

Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 249.29 points or 0.32 per cent. "Markets ended the week with marginal gains, reflecting a volatile and range-bound trading environment amid mixed global and domestic cues," Ajit Mishra SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said. The week began on a positive note, supported by easing geopolitical tensions and steady progress in Q4 earnings, which lifted initial sentiment, he said. However, gains were gradually capped by rising crude oil prices, weak cues from Asian markets, and persistent foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows, Mishra added. While Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Bajaj Finance were the gainers from the pack, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever and
