The number of wireline subscribers increased from 47.99 million at the end of February 2026 to 48.25 million at the end of March 2026. The net increase in the wireline subscriber base was 0.25 million with a monthly growth rate of 0.53%. The overall wireline tele-density in India increased from 3.37% at the end of February 2026 to 3.38% at the of March 2026. Urban and rural wireline tele-density were 8.37% and 0.57% respectively, at the end of March 2026. The respective share of urban subscribers, and rural subscribers in total wireline subscribers were 89.24% and 10.76% respectively at the end of March 2026.
India records 9.28 million new Telecom Subscribers in March; Broadband base hits 1.06 billion
India's telecommunications sector expanded by 9.28 million subscribers in March 2026, bringing the total number of telephone users in the country to 1,330.58 million. According to the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the industry maintained a monthly growth rate of 0.70 per cent. The wireless segment remained the primary engine of this growth, contributing 9.02 million new connections, while wireline services added 0.25 million subscribers during the same period.
