Taking Stock: Markets end in red amid volatility, but Nifty holds above 24,000
On the sectoral front, auto, FMCG, power, pharma, and telecom indices edged higher by around 0.5% each, while the realty index declined 1.4%, consumer durable down 1% and the private banking index slipped 0.5%.

Indian equities traded on a subdued note on Thursday afternoon, with benchmark indices hovering around the flatline after early volatility. At 2:20 pm, the Sensex was up 11.40 points at 74,357.57, while the Nifty gained 11.30 points to 23,416.90. Market breadth remained positive, with 2,076 stocks advancing against 1,689 declines. Consumer durables, auto and energy stocks supported the market, while weakness in information technology and metal shares capped gains. Except Consumer Durables and PSU Bank, all other sectoral indices ended in the green with Information Technology rose 2.5%, Metal index gained 1.5%, Realty index up 1.7% and Media index jumped 1%. The Nifty midcap index was up 0.3 percent, while smallcap index ended flat.
