Sensex options can be as large as Nifty's by FY29, says Jefferies but has a warning for BSE investors
Jefferies expects Sensex weekly options on BSE to match Nifty’s scale by FY29, driven by strong derivatives growth. However, it warns that much optimism is already priced in, citing valuation concerns, regulatory risks and heavy reliance on a single product. The brokerage maintains a cautious ‘Hold’ stance on BSE.
Bulls return to D-Street as falling oil prices ease geopolitical jitters
Indian stock markets experienced a significant rally on Wednesday. Both the Nifty 50 and S&P BSE Sensex saw gains exceeding 1 percent. This surge followed a sharp drop in oil prices due to potential US-Iran accord news. Easing tensions boosted investor confidence, leading to a broad market uplift. Volatility also decreased, indicating reduced near-term risk.
INR recovers under Rs 95/$ mark as oil plunges; Nifty, Sensex stage a sharp recovery
The Indian rupee appreciated 61 paise to close at 94.57 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, as Brent crude prices retreated from elevated levels under USD 100 per barrel after US President Donald Trump hinted at a possible deal with Iran. Market sentiment was boosted after Trump paused "Project Freedom," a US operation to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Indias BSE Sensex rose 1.2% to close at 77,958.5 on Wednesday, an over two-week high as global market sentiment improved following a drop in crude oil prices after US President Trump claimed progress in negotiations with Iran toward an agreement to end the war. Meanwhile, DXY slipped 97.53, the lowest since February 2026. Over the past 4 weeks, Dollar Index lost 2.22%, and in the last 12 months, it decreased 1.98%.

Baroda BNP Paribas MF sees easing crude boosting rate-sensitive stocks, chemicals
Baroda BNP Paribas Mutual Fund Senior Fund Manager Jitendra Sriram said softer crude prices could improve sentiment for India and support interest rate-sensitive sectors. He believes refining, oil marketing and select specialty chemical companies may benefit if West Asia tensions ease. Sriram also cautioned that higher raw material and logistics costs may pressure corporate earnings over the next few quarters despite resilient recent results. Mcap of 4 most valued firms surges by ₹2.20 trn, Reliance biggest winner
The combined market valuation of four of the top-10 most valued firms surged by Rs 2.20 lakh crore in a holiday-shortened last week, with Reliance Industries emerging as the biggest gainer. Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 249.29 points or 0.32 per cent. "Markets ended the week with marginal gains, reflecting a volatile and range-bound trading environment amid mixed global and domestic cues," Ajit Mishra SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said. The week began on a positive note, supported by easing geopolitical tensions and steady progress in Q4 earnings, which lifted initial sentiment, he said. However, gains were gradually capped by rising crude oil prices, weak cues from Asian markets, and persistent foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows, Mishra added. While Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Bajaj Finance were the gainers from the pack, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever and
